Celebrating Love

February 14, 2024

All you need is love
All you need is love
All you need is love, love
Love is all you need
The Beatles

Stepping around the saccharin sentimentality of this holiday, I do appreciate that we take at least one day each year to celebrate love. Love flowing through the collective consciousness. Hearts and flowers and Hallmark moments. Sweet.

But love is so much more than sweet sentiments.

This year, the lyrics in the graphic below are all the more poignant for me because one of my long time friends who has been in hospice died two days ago. I’ve been reflecting much on Peter. The character of him. The grace and love and humor of him. He made a lot of love happen in his life and I know he took that with him when he left us.

I sit with Peter’s legacy of love. May we all leave such a legacy. Love is really all we need as we navigate the essence of life. Love. Holding and sharing it is something to celebrate every day.

  1. I’m sorry to hear about your friend dying. I hope the hospice care went well. It’s about a year ago one of my brothers died. He had received hospice care as well and died in care.

My sister said to me simply for today, Happy Heart Day! Which I think said it well without all the syrup. So Happy Heart Day! to you and yours. I don’t know what Saint Valentine would think were he here, but he might have thoughts like yours. That a day to celebrate love, however it goes as long as it goes positively, must be a good thing.
