Sifting. Weaving.

May 26, 2026

When do we become Elder? When do we become Crone? People often try to pin it on a chronological age. But perhaps it’s a life threshold we cross when we know that our purpose is to sift through the information and experiences we have accumulated to weave threads of insight and wisdom. Threads passed down to us. Threads now passed through us. Threads that create images of how to be in right relationship with the sacred, the Earth, and each other.

Wendell Berry creates those images as he weaves together the wisdom threads of our shared culture, environmental sustainability, and moral integrity. Wise Elder and author of over fifty books, he has many vibrant images to share with us.

We are the weavers. We are the woven ones. We are the dreamer. We are the dream. May we all know it.

Woven blessings,
Judith

  1. I don’t know if my response got through, so I’m trying again. I appreciate your question about, as I’m thinking on it, Eldering. I’m wondering who decides and how it is arranged. I think of the role as presenting wisdom to the community. I admire your metaphors of threads and weaving. We are a tapestry, aren’t we?
